In a sexy take on a tuxedo, Rihanna made her first major public appearance since Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party in February at a fashion event in New York City on Monday evening.

With her hair peppered with blonde highlights and slicked to one side, Rihanna hit the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala’s “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday. The event is often considered the social style event of New York’s spring season.

Rihanna skipped the press line, but she posed for photographers in her silk suit, which featured cropped pants, billowing shoulders and a bow tie.

The singer was scheduled to appear at the Grammys on Feb. 8, but was forced to withdraw from the music event after she was allegedly beaten by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, hours before the ceremony.

She has made no major public appearances since Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party, the night before the alleged beating.

Rihanna was one of dozens of stars at Monday’s Met event including Madonna (wearing a daring headpiece), Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, Stella McCartney, Anne Hathaway, Gisele Bundchen, Eva Longoria and husband Tony Parker, Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry, Kate Moss, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake and Victoria Beckham.
