Witherspoon posted a photo on her Whosay page a few days ago with the caption, "Here's the first pic of me as Cheryl Strayed in WILD. So excited to play @cherylstrayed in a movie!" In the photo, the Oscar-winning actress is shown looking a little trail-weary as she's carrying a large backpack.

On Monday, Strayed, 45, reacted after the agency @ZSHLiterary tweeted the Witherspoon photo alongside a black and white 1995 image of Strayed carrying her own backpack on the Pacific Crest Trail.

"Funny to see this!" Strayed wrote on Facebook. "Me and Reese side by side as 'Cheryl in 1995 on the PCT.' In my defense, I didn't have a hair, makeup and wardrobe crew with me."

"Wild" is Strayed's tale of discovery in the face of personal loss. She set out alone as a young woman on the PCT and hiked 1,100 miles from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon and into Washington. Witherspoon optioned the film rights before the book was even published.
