Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston let their families find out about their engagement via a celebrity magazine, so it's not hard to believe that a reality show might be the couple's next step.
Within hours of Us Weekly announcing the betrothal, there were Internet rumors that Palin and Johnston would be participating in a reality show featuring footage from their wedding, their lives as young parents, or both.
But at this stage of the game, it doesn’t seem like there’s a deal for a show in place. Palin’s camp had no comment about such a program. Johnston’s attorney Rex Butler didn’t return calls about the rumors. Bravo and MTV both confirmed there are no shows about the young couple in the works. And at least two other prominent reality-show producers who asked not to be named said that no show featuring the couple was even in the shopping stage.
So for now, it seems that the closest glimpse the public will get inside the lives of Palin and Johnston will be when a magazine inevitably buys the photos of the wedding.
But as one reality-show producer said, “If they prove to be bankable — and the Us Weekly cover could prove that — there could be a number of companies who want to air their story.”
Beatle scores point for vegetarians
Paul McCartney has won an 18-month battle against McDonald's and points from vegetarians everywhere.
The long-time herbivore was angered that the chain was displaying pictures of The Beatles at one of its Liverpool, England, locations, according to the British newspaper Daily Star. Managers have since removed the offending photographs.
"Paul's famous (for) saying, 'If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian,' " PETA's president, Ingrid Newkirk, said to TODAYshow.com in an e-mail. "PETA alerted Paul to the photos of himself in the McDonald's restaurant, and he objected to the photos being put up in a place that sells the remains of slaughtered animals between two halves of a bun."
Newkirk added that McCartney has been extremely involved with PETA, starring in one of PETA's first "veg testimonial" public service announcements and narrating a video this year called "Glass Walls" for the group.
McCartney became a vegetarian with his late wife Linda decades ago. He continues to only serve vegetarian meals to his touring staff and ensures there is a vegetarian option for fans at every concert venue he plays.
Weekend box officeTwo very different films open this weekend. There’s “Inception,” the dream-world thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Christopher Nolan of "Dark Knight" and "Memento" fame. It opens in 3,700 theaters, has been earning stellar reviews and has the magical PG-13 rating, which tends to bode well for big box-office receipts come Monday.
Also, there’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a PG-rated film from Disney that’s going to attract the kid crowd, and will open in 3,385 theaters.
Which will prevail? My money’s on “Inception.”
