Sonja Morgan is not a happy housewife these days.

She's undergoing a divorce, for one thing, and thanks to her Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, the media has been publicizing the real finances of one of the stars of "The Real Housewives of New York City." It hasn't been pretty.

And now Morgan is asking everyone to back the heck off.

"I have not made public my financial status affected by my divorce and outstanding business matters as I prefer to keep these matters private," Morgan said in a statement released today.

"However, it has now become public only due to my Chapter 11 filing, and has raised a lot of questions in the media, along with incorrect assumptions and statements.  Many times divorce can be difficult  especially when significant assets are co-mingled. Out of respect to my ex-husband, our families, my brand and future ventures, I ask that the media understand that during negotiations with interested parties on all sides I will not be able to discuss any details.

"I appreciate all the support and professional advice I have received. I look forward to discussing all of this and more as I move forward and my current situation is settled.”

The statement quotes Morgan's lawyer, Jeff Landers, as having said that Morgan is "currently focused on securing her future financial independence independent from her ongoing divorce settlement discussions by building her career and pursuing her various business opportunities.  As a result she has been advised to not currently discuss details concerning her divorce. We ask that the media respect Mrs. Morgan's wishes during this time."

Oh, reality TV stars. It's all fun and games until the media pokes you in the eye.

Does Sonja Morgan have a right to her privacy in this case? Should the media step back? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!
