Fans have been predicting it for weeks, and on Thursday night, they were right.
Bucky Covington was sent packing from “American Idol.” Ace Young and Elliott Yamin joined him in the bottom three and many readers seem to think pretty-boy Ace will be the next to follow.
Here’s a sampling of reader thoughts on the Wednesday episode of “Idol.”
'Bout time Bucky got bucked! He should have never made it this far in the first place! Just goes to prove that the charity of human beings never ceases to amaze me. Ace is gorgeous. He should stay just to give the girls – young and old – something to look at. However, he'll never win the competition. In the end, it takes real talent to be an “American Idol!” I love Elliot. Let's face it, the guy can sing. If he'd only get his “grill” fixed and move a little more on stage, he may appeal to more people. My fear is that America has forgotten what true talent sounds like and may vote him off before his time. Chris won't win. It's never as cut-and-dry as you think. This guy has all the ingredients to be the “select choice.” He just better hope that the audience's taste doesn't change before the end of the meal! – Lalia
KATHARINE WINS IT
Bucky was lucky to have made it this far. Nice enough guy, but not a good singer – even for country. Ace should have been voted off weeks ago. He can't sing and he relies solely on his George Michael looks and style. Elliot is a talented, great singer. He is a truly a kind soul and people got to see it this week. Chris is a rocker, that’s what suits his voice, but he’s not “American Idol” material. Katharine has the whole package – looks, voice and she probably can act, she should win this year’s competition. – Paul
ACE SHOULD GO
I really would have preferred to see Ace go rather than Bucky. Ace is getting by on his looks, not his talent. He has no stage presence and his voice is mediocre at best. I believe next week he should be gone unless everybody else completely falls apart. Elliott has a good voice and can sing but he is a complete dork on stage. Chris is so one-dimensional. Unless it is a hard rock-and-roll song, he is lost. He really has no technique. He is only comfortable screaming or yelling into the microphone. Kelly, Paris and Katharine are all good genres they are comfortable with. It would be hard to narrow it down between the three – they are all pretty equal. Taylor is so much fun to watch perform. He really is trying to entertain and not just get onstage and sing a song. He is obviously having a great time and wants everyone else to have a great time with him. His vocals are always very good, on pitch, etc. I think he can take it all the way to the finals. – Brenda
Even though Bucky's performance Tuesday night was, I thought, very good, I believe his performances in general are sub-par. I do believe it was Bucky's time to go. If all voters were like my daughter – who practically drool over Ace – he would probably win the whole show. Talent-wise, I think he should be the next to go. – Gary
It's very difficult at this stage because everyone is trying so hard! I think that Bucky could have gone a bit longer. He's pretty good. Elliott has a good voice but he always looks so scared and nervous and I think that holds him back a bit. I really like Ace, he's got a great voice but he needs to pick up the pace a bit – he has been boring the past few weeks. Yes, he's easy on the eyes and I think that may be helping him stay in this competition. I love Chris! He's great! I think he will be one of the final two along with Katharine. But in this competition, I've seen stranger things happen! – Hope
In my opinion I think Ace should have left the show before Bucky. I think Bucky has a unique voice and style. I am not saying that Ace does not have talent because he does. I just think Bucky should have been the one to stay on the show. Bucky seems to take things in stride and it was refreshing to see that he took the comments from the judges as constructive criticism instead of feeling like he was being attacked. Bucky will be missed. Elliot and Chris have strong voices and I enjoy hearing them sing every week It would be hard for me to say who has the better voice. As far as Paris, I think she has come a long way and I think America is taking notice. – Purcell
I guess it was Bucky's time to go, but I sure did hate it. In fact, I am going to quit watching the Wednesday night show because I love them all and last night’s format seemed to border on cruel. What a way to treat people, especially having the bottom three sing what could be their swan songs. Too much for me! It was mean to say the least. Actually, all the eight people have wonderful voices. So what if you don't like the song they picked. Ace may be next. He is very handsome and he can really sing. And Elliott should be making CD's right now. I was voting for Taylor, but Chris may come out on top. Anyway, can't stand the way they treat the singers on Wednesdays, so that is over for me. I will wait until Thursday morning and do my crying then! – Sherry
