As a prominent character in a series that had its share of surprising deaths, Harry Potter sidekick Ron Weasley should count his blessings that he made it to the end of the saga.

In an interview with Harry Potter’s big-screen portrayer, Daniel Radcliffe, the young wizard’s  creator, author J.K. Rowling revealed that she nearly killed off Harry’s red-headed buddy midway through the series. The interview, which appears as a special feature in the upcoming release of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’’ DVD, has been leaked online.

In the interview, Radcliffe asks Rowling if she ever planned on knocking off one of “the big three’’ — Harry, Ron or Hermione — as she wrote the series of best-selling novels that turned kids around the world on to reading and spawned a multimillion-dollar film franchise.
