Comedian Mike Young, a touring partner and friend of Bob Saget, has wonderful final memory of the “Full House” star prior to his death at age of 65.
“The last text, we were just joking back and forth because we were getting ready to do some shows together,” Young told Savannah Guthrie Tuesday on TODAY. “I said, ‘Bob, you gotta put me on the poster. Put my face on the poster at this point. We’re together over 10 years.’
“And he just made this hilarious picture and I didn’t even bring the picture, but it was me, a giant picture of me, and Bob, a tiny Bob in the corner for the shows coming up. We just had a great laugh, like we always did, but this was like a really authentic, funny ... We just cracked up back and forth about this mocked up poster that Bob made.”
Young also said Saget was never one to wrap up conversations without letting people know how he felt about them.
“He always ended it with, ‘I love you.’ He was an ‘I love you’ guy,” and he was full of love,” he said. “He loved his job and he loved the crowds and he loved touring and he loved what he did.”
Like millions of fans, Young said he was stunned by Saget's sudden death. The comedian was found dead Sunday in a hotel room in Orlando, Florida, just hours after he had performed stand-up comedy.
Young told TODAY Saget died in his sleep. “It’s just one of those things that you can’t believe,” he said.
“I was just lucky enough to work with him for over 10 years, touring together, every week. I talked to him every day,” he added. “Bob was a special guy.”
Saget’s “Full House” castmates have spoken out about his death. Co-stars John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Lori Loughlin, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Andrea Barber have mourned his loss through individual social media posts or statements.
In addition, several stars from “How I Met Your Mother,” which Saget narrated, have paid tribute to him.
“My whole heart. Bob was my absolute everything,” Rizzo said in a statement to People. “I am so completely shattered and in disbelief. I am so deeply touched by the outpouring of love and tribute from our friends, family, his fans and his peers.
“When the time is right and when this news is not as raw, I look forward to sharing more of Bob with the world. Sharing how much he meant to me, all of those around him, and how much all of his fans and friends meant to him as well. Thank you for respecting my privacy at this time.”
