Patrick Stewart has advice for his younger self: Cheer the #%@$ up!

Sure, Patrick Stewart is a veteran star of stage and screen who's just as renowned for his off-screen antics as he is for his acting chops, but it wasn't always that way. Back in the day, Stewart was staid, uptight and just plain "boring."

Stewart and his "X-Men: Days of Future Past" co-stars Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy recently gathered for a SiriusXM Town Hall, wherein the former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actor revealed the advice he now has for his younger self.

"Patrick, cheer the (expletive) up!" he shouted.

That bit of wisdom came as a surprise to one of his pals.

"Really? You're like the happiest person I know," Jackman said.

But that, evidently, wasn't always the case.

"That's now," Stewart assured. "That's how I've become thanks to the guys on 'Star Trek,' and you guys have helped me to do this. I was so miserable when I was a kid."

And as he grew up, he learned the compliments he got from adults back then weren't really compliments at all.

"I grew up too fast, and I could hear adults saying, ‘Oh, you can rely on Patrick. He’s very responsible,'" he recalled. "'And really what they were saying is I was dull and boring. I had no fun. But I promise you, I am making up for it now!”

If anyone has a doubt about that, just check out any of his social media accounts for proof positive that the actor (often accompanied by his BFF and "X-Men" co-star Ian McKellen) knows how to have a good time.
