One Direction tells 'Sesame Street' 'What Makes U Useful'

One Direction informed the world "What Makes You Beautiful" in 2011, but as they'll share with "Sesame Street" fans this fall for season 45, the guys also know "What Makes 'U' Useful."

For example, it starts the word "udon," as in noodles in a bowl. That's just one of the many useful "U" words that make up the tune the foursome sing on the upcoming episode, which got a teaser video uploaded on YouTube Friday. Or should that be UTube?

In the video, the guys croon while a purple letter "U" bounces about looking undeniably terrific. In just three days the video has amassed more than 1.1 million views, on its way to undoubtedly taking over the universe.

"'Sesame Street' has a long history of super cool musical guests, from Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon," USA Today theater and music critic Elysa Gardner said on TODAY Friday. "I would not quite put One Direction in that league, but I think it's very cool that they're doing the show. And giving a good message to kids to be useful, not just beautiful."

"Sesame Street" has been walking on the hip side of the avenue for years, often including famous faces in its teaching segments. The series often gives ubiquitous boy bands and pop idols unique platforms — One Direction now steps into the hallowed boy-band shoes of groups including Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. And the show has even done a singing segment with a puppet who very closely resembles a pre-arrest Justin Bieber.

That's what makes "Sesame Street" beautiful. Check out the video for more!
