Two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor says in a new book that she grew up in fear of her alcoholic mother, and that her father was also an alcoholic who sobered up after going to prison for drunken driving.

May-Treanor also reveals that she was sexually assaulted in college at Long Beach State.

The book "Misty, Digging Deep in Volleyball and Life" is due out in June. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the uncorrected proof from the publisher.

May-Treanor also describes her mother as the moral compass from which she learned her values. After she died from cancer in 2002, May-Treanor continued to write her mother letters and sprinkled her ashes on the sand at the beach volleyball venue at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
