After five months of post-split silence, Nick Lachey is finally talking.
Nick sat down with Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell over the weekend to talk about his new album and life without Jessica Simpson.
And as Nancy found out, if you want to know how he feels about the split from Jess, just listen to his new album tellingly titled “What’s Left Of Me.”
A surprisingly candid album, one of the tracks is titled “I Can’t Hate You Anymore.”
“Did you feel like you hated Jessica?” Nancy asked Nick.
“No. I don’t think I could ever hate her. I think it was more of a hate of the situation. It was more about me,” he explained. “It was this feeling inside of me, you know, I don’t want to be this angry person. I don’t want to be bitter about this.”
“Do you feel like you’ve completely go?” Nancy asked.
“I don’t think I could say that I’ve completely let go,” Nick answered.
“Do you want the relationship back?” Nancy inquired.
“There’s real love there. There always will be. I can’t say what the future holds,” he revealed.
“Sounds like the door is open,” suggested Nancy.
“I can honestly say with 100 percent sincerity that I want for us both to be happy and however that happens, that's how it meant to be,” a candid Nick admitted.
Nick, who appeared at Clear Channel New York’s Style Stage this weekend, recorded the new album just as his marriage was unraveling.
“You recorded [the single] ‘What’s Left Of Me’ on the day you decided to get divorced,” Nancy said. “That had to be a hard day.”
“When I look back on it, I think what in the world was I doing in the studio. But it really was at a point where there was nothing left to say,” Nick said. “I didn’t know what else to do with myself or my head that day. This was already booked.”
In one of the notable lines to the single, Nick cries out “I’m half the man I thought I would be.”
“What do you mean by that?” Nancy asked.
“Well, for one, it was a good rhyme with ‘What’s left of me,’” Nick laughed. “I guess for me, it’s a little bit of I’m 32-years-old and this is not exactly where I wanted to be at this point in my life.”
