Nia Vardalos had no problem filming kissing scenes with her movie husband John Corbett when the two reunited to make “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” But that wasn’t always the case.

The star and writer of both movies visited with TODAY’s Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb to discuss what it was like to be back on the set of the highly anticipated sequel more than a decade after making the original.

She also revealed for the first time a story about how she nearly created a scandal when Corbett tried to calm her nerves right before the two were scheduled to shoot her first-ever on-screen kiss.

Vardalos said right before the scene, she waited for Corbett outside the movie set's makeup trailer. When he came out, she told him how nervous she was because she had never kissed anyone in a movie before.

“’Can you just kiss me right now and we’ll just get it over with, just by ourselves?’” she recalled asking him. “And he goes, ‘Sure.’ Kisses me right there, and I was like, melt. Got it over with and then I was embarrassed.”

But little did they know they were being watched the entire time.

“The man who does our hair had opened the door of the hair and makeup trailer and seen us and went, ‘They’re having an affair!’” she said.

Vardalos promises "Greek Wedding 2" has “lots of romance,” as well as great lines from its numerous female characters.

“It was as my personal goal to write very, very strong roles for the women because we are an under-served gender in Hollywood,” she said.

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" opens in theaters March 25.
