Watch Rachel McAdams get riled up in 'True Detective' trailer

"True Detective" has just released the first trailer of Season 2, but the mystery still remains: What's it all going to be about?

Hard to imagine that this new season — which stars Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell — could top last year's existential odd-fest with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, but based on the new trailer we think it's got a great shot.

But the best part of the trailer isn't just the small peeks we're getting into the intense new world — it's watching Rachel McAdams (as Officer Ani Bezzerides) get all worked up. She dominates the trailer with her knife-wielding skills and furious lines.

"This girl's gone missing," she says. "Nobody cares. The Interior's poisoned and suddenly worth billions. Nobody cares?"

It's a real switch from the romantic beauty who snagged our hearts in movies like "The Vow" and "The Time Traveler's Wife." But we're ready for it!

McAdams did give a little more insight into Officer Bezzerides when she spoke to Marie Claire for their June issue about the role.

"I love that she's not the girlfriend or the wife," she told the magazine. "She doesn't really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people's feelings. She's not trying to be charming, which isn't always the case with a leading lady."

Season 2 of "True Detective" begins airing on HBO June 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
