A music coordinator for MTV was shot execution-style in a quiet residential area near his Los Angeles home on Sunday, police said.

Gabriel Ben-Meir, 30, worked on music for such shows as "Parental Control" and "Dudesons in America," and also had worked as a production coordinator for "Punk'd" and "The Hard Times of RJ Berger."

He was shot in the back of his head while walking from his BMW to his apartment building sometime after midnight Sunday, a LAPD spokesman said. His body was not found until 6:30 that morning.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that detectives were investigating whether or not the murder was tied to a string of shotgun robberies and a murder in the same area in recent weeks.

"We are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Gabe Ben-Meir, who was a valued member of the MTV family and a beloved and dedicated colleague and friend," MTV spokeswoman Brandi Albahary said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to his family."

Ben-Meir's father, Nick, and sister, Alexis, also work in the music industry. "(Gabriel) was not only my brother but my best friend," Alexis Ben-Meir told the Los Angeles Times.

Ben-Meir held degrees in music and physics from Ohio's Kenyon College.
