The past year has been a full and difficult one for Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. While the singer-songwriter juggled professional duties, including the Stones "14 on Fire" tour and production on the soon-to-be released James Brown biopic "Get On Up," he also suffered a tremendous personal loss when his girlfriend, fashion designer L'Wren Scott, died in March.

Jagger told Matt Lauer what he's been up to and what he's been through, speaking publicly for the first time about Scott's death.

About coping

  • "I'm doing OK. It was difficult, you know, very hard year, but I got back into it by working on touring with the Stones in Europe, and doing other things, including this great movie."
  • Jagger credits a "lot of support" from friends and family for helping him move forward after his partner's death.

About that film

  • Jagger believes the audience will follow Brown's life and feel his success in the big-screen effort.
  • "James Brown … comes from absolutely nothing, from nowhere. He has nothing. But he wants to be someone; he wants to be a big star."
  • "He's going to work like crazy to become a big star, and it's about the effects on his personality when he achieves that goal — what happens to you."
