As Dexter would know, the first cut's always the deepest.
A few days after revealing their marriage was kaput, Jennifer Carpenter filed for divorce from Michael C. Hall Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences as her reason.
And while we all know that could mean anything, it doesn't mean Hall had an affair with Julia Stiles.
According to the petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Hall and Carpenter separated on Aug. 9. They did not have any kids.
The Dexter costars tied the knot on Dec. 31, 2008, and, while Carpenter was spotted at the season-five wrap party last weekend and Hall was not, they will continue to work together as the Showtime hit enters its sixth season.
Perhaps Hall used whatever on-set tension there was to fuel his performance--he was just nominated for a Golden Globe for the fifth straight year for his performance as well-intentioned serial killer Dexter Morgan. He's also the defending champ heading into the Jan. 16 ceremony.
He notched another Screen Actors Guild nomination today, and Dexter is in the running for top TV drama ensemble, as well.
