For American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, Christmas has come early.

Following her appearance at the Billboard Awards in Las Vegas Monday, she confirmed her album release date has been pushed back to January 30th.

Last month the raven-haired beauty told Access Hollywood of her frustration over the album’s original drop date, the week before Christmas. “I’m not really happy about that date in particular,” she previously said. “It’s very close to Christmas, which is a very hard time to sell a record.”

Backstage in Las Vegas however, McPhee noted her record release qualms have subsided as a result of the new date. “I think we were trying to make the ‘Black Friday,’ the Thanksgiving time and it was just so unrealistic coming off of a tour,” she said of the initial rush. “Chris [Daughtry] for instance, he recorded all tour long, which was really great ‘cause he got his record out in a really good time. For me we just decided not to do it on the road because we wanted to build the songs in the studio when I was present and so it took a little bit longer.”

Once fearful of getting caught in the Christmas rush (and perhaps having to compete with Santa Claus), McPhee now says she hopes the moved date will help give her the push she needs on the airwaves. “For me it’s about radio play and if your sales plummet after [the] Christmas season is over, it’s really, really hard for the radio to have interest in you as an artist and have your music on the radio,” she said. “That’s [one] of the reasons why we pushed it and I’m really glad they listened to me.”

Katharine hinted she is finished recording the effort, but the track listing is still in “negotiation.”

Some of the many producers and co-songwriters she worked with for the as yet untitled release include Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Timbaland associate Nate Hill, Kara Dioguardi and Ryan Leslie.
