It seems that tiger blood is thicker than water, at least in Charlie Sheen's case. He may have abandoned his "winning" strategy, but fortunately the former "Two and a Half Men" star can always count on his family.
Sheen's papa Martin and brother Emilio Estevez dropped by the TODAY studio and spoke to Matt Lauer about their new film, "The Way," in which a father follows in his late son's footsteps on a 500-mile walk. Estevez appeared in the film, wrote and directed it, while Martin plays the role of the grieving (and hiking) father.
But while both were on hand to speak about the film primarily, they also had kind words for their wayward son and brother, whose tumultuous exit from "Two and a Half Men" made headlines earlier this year.
"We're grateful to you for that interview," Martin said, referring to Lauer's interview with Charlie in September. "It made all the difference."
At the time, Sheen talked to Lauer about his "one crazy chapter, one weird phase," and admitted he thought he'd always be able to return to the "Men" series, at least until he was replaced by Ashton Kutcher.
According to his dad, Charlie is in a family mood these days -- he even showed up "unexpectedly" to a special Los Angeles screening of "The Way."
"(He) was just great," said the former "West Wing" actor. "We were delighted to see him."
But, Martin added, his son's new attitude isn't just for show. "It seems that something really important has happened and he has turned a corner and we're grateful and give thanks and pray every day," he said.
