New mom Mariah Carey had an unexpected visitor in the hospital this week: a social worker, who according to her husband Nick Cannon, was investigating a claim that Carey was abusing her newborn twins by consuming alcohol and drugs while breastfeeding.

Cannon told CNN that the situation might have been triggered after a nurse suggested that Carey drink a small amount of dark beer in an effort to help breastfeeding, and he believes that someone trying to sell the story to tabloids might be behind it.

"Child protective services were called with allegations that, you know, there was some drinking and drugs and all that going on while in the hospital, which again makes no sense to me," Cannon told CNN's Piers Morgan in an interview Thursday night. "Like, how would a hospital even allow that?"

Cannon went on to say that people wanting to sell the story might have been behind the incident.

"I guess someone maybe overheard that (suggestion), and this is a good way to make a quick buck, or call the tabloids," Cannon said. "It's kind of sad that people think that we'll make money off of these newborns."
