“Mamma Mia!” has sunk “Titanic” at the U.K. box office.
The ABBA-themed musical replaced the maritime romance as the highest-grossing movie ever released in the U.K. after selling 69.1 million pounds ($105.8 million) worth of tickets, Universal Pictures International said Tuesday. “Titanic,” by contrast, finished up with 69 million pounds in 1998.
“Titanic” remains the biggest film ever released worldwide, with sales of $1.8 billion. “Mamma Mia!” earned about $572 million, with Japan the only major market remaining. All figures are unadjusted for inflation.
