Madonna says she has donated a $250,000 to help the people of Haiti — and she is urging her fans and friends to do the same.

The pop queen said Friday in a statement that her prayers are with the people of Haiti. She says she donated to Partners In Health, a longtime health care provider there.

“I urge all of my friends and fans around the world to join me collectively to match my contribution or give in any way you can,” she said. “We must act now.”

Other celebrities are also taking action.

Chelsea Clinton will host a benefit spinning class at the Tribeca location of Soul Cycle on Jan. 21 in New York City. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the the 90-minute ride will go to the Clinton Haiti Relief Fund. Prices for the ride are $1,000 for front row and “side pod” bikes, $500 for second row bikes and $100 for all other bikes.

Gisele Bundchen donated $1.5 million to the Red Cross. The model, who reportedly earned $35 million last year, was inspired to help after seeing the catastrophic damage done by the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck earlier this week, the Boston Globe reported.

Not On Our Watch, an advocacy and grantmaking group founded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt and others, on Friday donated $1 million to Partners in Health.

The international Red Cross estimates 45,000 to 50,000 people were killed in the earthquake that devastated the Caribbean nation on Tuesday.
