A report that Jamie Kennedy popped the question to Jennifer Love Hewitt while an entire comedy club crowd watched is not true, according to reps for the stars.
The New York Post’s Page Six reported that Kennedy spontaneously asked for the actress’ hand in marriage on stage on Saturday at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, Calif. The paper claimed that during the end of Kennedy’s comedy routine, he invited Love Hewitt to the stage and an audience member reportedly yelled, “Marry her!” and without a ring Kennedy proposed and she accepted.
However, a rep for “The Ghost Whisperer” star told Access Hollywood the couple is not engaged.
“There is no truth to the report,” a rep for Love Hewitt told Access.
“They are not engaged,” a rep for Kennedy added.
Though there was no actual engagement, there was still magic happening on the stage. A spokesperson for the Laugh Factory told Access that Jamie “broke the record at the new Laugh Factory in Long Beach doing a 2-hour (and) 7-minute show.”
During Kennedy’s impressive stage run, the funny man did invite his girlfriend on stage with him, where she also performed some comedy of her own along with singing a “beautiful song” for the audience, the comedy club told Access.
At the end of Love Hewitt’s set, the audience erupted into chants of “marry her, marry her,” but there was no an actual popping of the question.
The actress was previously engaged to Ross McCall.
Love Hewitt and Kennedy stepped out publicly as couple in February.
