Former "Lost" star Dominic Monaghan isn't afraid to share his thoughts on Twitter. In May, the actor slammed co-star Matthew Fox in 140 characters or less, accusing the man behind Jack Shephard of beating women. Monaghan's latest target? History Channel's "Swamp People."
"If my hero #steveirwin was around those shows about killing alligators wouldn't be on tv. I'm gonna stop them. Watch this space," Monaghan tweeted on Wednesday. "If alligator populations need to be controlled I understand but the act should not be glorified on tv.disgusting.These are living creatures."
The reality program follows a group of "swampers" in the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana during the 30-day alligator hunting season.
The actor went on to discuss the issue with his followers, calling the program "a show about rednecks killing gators," and said the smaller alligators don't pose a threat to humans.
He also pointed out that he takes issue with the "continuing the demonization of crocodilians" and how the show doesn't educate but is "shock tv."
"As I said I blame the network not the people.i consider it tortuous to stalk net n shoot an intelligent animal," he tweeted. Monaghan also noted that he's no fan of "Deadliest Catch" either, but has less of an issue with the Discovery hit because "at least you don't see these animals shot at."
History Channel has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Though the actor received some heat from his followers for his thoughts on "Swamp People," he seemed to take it all in stride. "I genuinely love haters.they hone my skills.they teach me things.they make me smile.they help me change.i love love interacting with them," Monaghan tweeted.
The animal lover is currently working on a new travel show for BBC America called "Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan," which will feature the actor searching for interesting creatures in various parts of the world. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
