Kathie Lee hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in two dozen years, ever since she took a cruise with her husband off the coast of Italy.
“I got pregnant, and it messes with your hormones so much, and I literally have not slept one night through in 24 (years),” she said Friday. Well, maybe once – but that was when she had foot surgery and was doped up on drugs.
New studies indicate that adults need about seven to eight hours daily, and a TODAY.com survey recently asked viewers how much sleep they get each night. Only 23 percent said they get the recommended amount, however. Most, about 72 percent, said they get between five to seven hours every evening instead.
Hoda said she would never be able to function on as little sleep as KLG gets at night.
“If I haven’t eaten all day, by the end of the day, everything is a hair trigger. No matter what someone says to me, I get really irritated,” she said. “And if I don’t sleep, I’m the same way. Those are my two things.”
Among signs of sleep deprivation is the need for caffeine to stay alert, which both ladies admitted to. Another indication is that feeling of a mid-afternoon slump, which KLG said she never gets.
“No, because I take a nap,” she explained.
But she did own up to another sign of sleep deprivation: turning down social engagements because of fatigue.
That, she joked, really has nothing to do with getting enough sleep.
“I really don’t like people anymore and there’s nobody I want to spend time with,” she quipped. “Honestly, there are just very few people. Regis calls, all right. Otherwise, I don’t think so.”
