Johnny Depp is the latest heartthrob who’s rumored to be puckering up for a same-sex smooch in an upcoming film.

The Oscar-nominated actor, who was named People magazine’s sexiest man alive in 2003, is starring in “The Libertine,” about 17th Century poet John Wilmot, also known as the Earl of Rochester.

Wilmot was believed to be bisexual, and spies are reporting that Depp has some heavy-duty tonsil-hockey scenes with another man in the flick. “His name is Rupert Friend and he’s a fairly unknown actor,” says the source, “but very handsome. The lucky guy.”

Depp’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment, but the actor joins such hunks as Colin Farrell (in “Alexander” and “A Home at the End of the World”), Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger (“Brokeback Mountain”) to play gay or bisexual characters on screen.

Pamela Anderson is doing her bit to bring a little cheer to the troops overseas.

The former “Baywatch” baby was in Phoenix, Arizona signing copies of her new book, “Star,” when she was greeted by a throng of soldiers from Luke Air Force base, home from Iraq getting a little R&R. “They waited for hours to meet Pam and get her autograph,” says the source, “and they begged her to send copies of her book to the soldiers in Iraq.”

Anderson signed a crate of one hundred copies of the steamy novel — making sure that they were the uncensored versions with her curvy pinup style photo on the cover, and not the toned-down, censored version being sold at Wal Marts.

“She had a really nice chat with the soldiers,” says the source. “She’s a big supporter of animal rights — she’s a spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals — and was delighted to learn that the overseas troops actually have three different vegetarian meals to choose from.”

If number of downloads for a screensaver is an accurate gage of popularity, Jessica Simpson has some serious competition from her kid sister. Ashlee Simpson has topped both Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears in a survey of more than 25,000 wallpaper and screensaver downloads. The “Autobiography” crooner has 1.7 times the downloads of Spears, twice as many as Jessica Simpson, and five times as many as Lindsay Lohan.  . . .Sigourney Weaver says she won’t watch “Alien vs. Predator,” even though the original “Alien” films first made her famous. “’I hope the alien wins but I don’t plan to see the movie,” Weaver told the Straights Times of Singapore. “It looks like a video movie.”  . . .Joaquin Phoenix says he’s had enough of seeing buff bods in film. “I’m so sick and f------ tired of every single actor with their six-pack and how it’s just a standard,” the star of “The Village” told the Gold Coast Bulletin of Australia. “You just don’t see people in movies without sculpted bodies with their shirts off unless they’re meant to be some heavyweight redneck, and then they go the other extreme.”
