Kelly Clarkson gives Access a backstage pass

Far from a diva, the former ‘Idol’ winner concentrates on her songs

After Kelly Clarkson gave us all Access last year to the making of her “Behind These Hazel Eyes” video, we thought we'd see what the very first “American Idol” winner was up to!

Kelly graciously opened up her life to Access again and this time, she showed about 1,500 people exactly what she's made of.

Access first nabbed a rare glimpse of Kelly in her native habitat doing vocal warm-ups just moments before she hit the stage.

“I was just like, don't screw it up,” Kelly laughed. “First verse, second verse. I was sitting there, running it through my head.”

Prep time came first though, not with a team of hair and makeup artists fussing over Kelly but a single stylist.

And their conversation? Not what you'd expect from a Grammy winner.

“My sister and brother-in-law are going to museums today,” Kelly said. “I am so jealous!”

With Kelly, you can forget about a backstage entourage or diva demands.

The only remotely rock star thing about her?

“I have Adam,” Kelly told us. “He's my trainer. He's on tour with me. I do kickboxing. I have bruises on my legs right now because of the pads!”

Unlike other young stars, the fit former “Idol” does not give in to Hollywood's trend toward the superskinny.

“Oh, well, child, I'm in the industry,” Kelly told us. “People put pressure on me every day. So you get pressure left and right. But I eat what I like. I work out because it's good for my body. It's not like I do it for other people.”

Kelly casually surveyed the empty stands at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa, Fla. that would soon be filled with eager fans.

She was plotting a little walk through the audience!

“Well, I don't want to do the same thing every night because fans will be like — she's gonna be in the middle!” Kelly laughed.

Access was on hand as Kelly's plan went off without a hitch. Kelly joined the crowd later that night as she serenaded them with “Hazel Eyes.”

“It was great. It ended up being great,” Kelly told us. “It was kind of nervewracking, though.”
