4 reasons Kathy Griffin will keep Joan Rivers' 'fearless style' alive as new 'Fashion Police' host

Next week, the E! series "Fashion Police" undergoes a changing of the guard as comedian Kathy Griffin takes over for the late Joan Rivers, who had hosted the show since it premiered in 2010.

Griffin — who was both a pal and admirer of Rivers — knows she's got a big task ahead. "She absolutely left big shoes to fill," she told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie Monday. "And I'm bringing my own slippers."

It's hard to imagine a more appropriate person to take over the spot, and during her visit to TODAY Griffin showed us at least four outrageous reasons why she's the right gal for the gig:

1. She's cut from the same cloth as Rivers, yet totally has her own style
"I will continue, if nothing else, in her fearless style of taking no prisoners," said Griffin. "But I'm a different human being. I'm more improvisational, and I don't know what I'm going to say."

2. Not only does she go overboard, she wants everyone to jump in with her
Griffin will also be critiquing awards show red carpets, and she wants to see some totally over-the-top outfits. "We could not have those shared Bob Mackie moments if everyone played it so safe," she said. "I actually hope some of the ladies bring the heat for the [Golden] Globes."

3. She's already written her Worst Dressed List
"I have been telling people they're on the Worst Dressed List sight unseen, just to mess with their heads," she laughed. So far that includes Ryan Seacrest and Anderson Cooper. They have been warned!

4. In the end, however, she's clearly got awesome taste
"I am obsessed with 'TODAY! The Musical,'" she enthused. "I've watched it about 47 times. Also, I like that Regis [Philbin] is the star and he's not even on the TODAY Show. So if you have not seen 'TODAY! The Musical,' please — everyone's best dressed."

Sing it, sister!

"Fashion Police" returns to E! on Jan. 12.
