Kate says the 'Plus 8' still love the cameras

Sometime between the end of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” and the plans for “Kate Plus 8,” former reality TV dad Jon  Gosselin began speaking out against his children living their lives in front of the lens. According to the father of eight, the constant cameras were bad for the bunch.

It’s a point Kate Gosselin has argued against in the past, and in her latest TODAY interview, the multiples’ mom insisted that reality TV is still a good thing for the Gosselin gang.

“It is a very positive fixture still in our lives,” she said of the cameras that capture so many of the kids’ moments. “It’s normal. It’s exciting. They still cheer when the crew comes in the door. I would not say that if it were not true. We just filmed this past weekend for an upcoming episode and they said that was one of their best weekends ever.”

That’s not hard to believe considering that most of the “Plus 8” specials feature trips to fun stops and exotic locales, but there are two children in the brood who perhaps aren’t cheering as quite as much as their siblings. But that, evidently, has nothing to do with the presence of the production crew. As Kate explained during a December visit to TODAY, Collin and Alexis were pulled out of school last year due to anger issues believed to stem from their parents’ divorce.

“Collin and Alexis’ therapist said, ‘You know, a third of the kids will sail through perfectly, a third of the kids will do horribly and a third of the kids will get through it with counseling,'" Kate recalled. "So she said you don’t ever know which kids will do what, but the most important thing is for me to have a positive attitude, to pick up from where our family left off and to continue with those traditions — which is what I’m doing.”

Currently Collin and Alexis remain home from school, but Kate believes the two will go back “in the very imminent future.”

As for her ex-husband's role in their lives, Kate explained that she welcomes Jon's involvement, whatever that may be.

“I’m doing what I can to reach out and communicate," she said. "What I receive back is not in my control. I’m doing the best that I can to involve him in our family.”

"Kate Plus 8" airs Monday night at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
