Kate Gosselin’s next big television gig will be a stint on “Dancing With the Stars.”

A source very close to Gosselin confirms that the mother of eight is going to be appearing as a contestant on the show, and defends her decision to do so.

“There are people out there saying that if she does the show, then she’s a bad mother,” the source said. “She has to earn a living, though. She has to do these things.”

Although the rehearsal schedule for “DWTS” is a grueling one, the show will do everything it can to make sure she can be as much of a hands-on mom as possible during taping. A source close to the show says to expect Gosselin to do much of her rehearsing from Pennsylvania where she and the kids live.

Gosselin stands to receive a potentially big payday. Although the show doesn’t publicize its contestant’s salaries, a contract obtained by TMZ for onetime contestant Shawn Johnson showed that the gymnast was guaranteed $125,000 for appearing on the show. She could have made as much as $365,000 if she made it to the final two.

In more casting news, TheWrap.com is reporting that former “Beverly Hills, 90210” bad girl Shannen Doherty will also be competing this season. Doherty's ex-husband, Ashley Hamilton, appeared last season and was elminated in the first week.

And TMZ is reporting that Cincinnati Bengals star Chad Ochocinco has also signed on. The outspoken NFL wide receiver is well known for his dances in the end zone — we'll see how he does in the ballroom.

The new season of “DWTS” premieres March 22. The cast will be officially announced Monday night.

The "Hannah Montana” star is a money-making sensation in music, TV and film.

Michaels, star of “Rock of Love,” penned the song “Nothin’ to Lose,” which includes lyrics such as: “We both know better than this/Still we can't resist/Slowly get undressed.”

The chorus isn’t much less controversial, especially when you consider Cyrus is 17 and Michaels is 46: "Won't you fall down on me/So close I can feel you breathe?”

Michaels told Us Weekly that he has been made aware of the controversy but insists that there’s nothing to be upset about.

“It has no reference to her and I. It’s not even (meant to be) a duet,” Michaels said. (Michaels originally recorded the song on his own.)

Michaels told Us he got “very positive comments” on the finished track, which will appear on his solo album “Custom Built,” out in late May.

“As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about," he says. "I'm a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song. "

‘Jersey’ cast members survive ceiling crash
On Saturday night, Twitter followers of “Jersey Shore” star Snooki received a message: “OMG roof just collapsed at the purim event! We thought the dj was beatin the beat hardcore but nope, the roof couldn’t handle snooki and vin.”

Here’s what happened: Snooki and fellow “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino were among 300 guests at a Purim celebration at the Sony building in New York City. At about 11:10 p.m., snow that collected on the roof, which was partially windowed, caused the glass to collapse.

Guadagnino also chimed in: “Roof just collapsed at Purim event…. I think me and @snooki felt the wrath for not being Jewish.”

Chris Noth was another celebrity on hand. No one was seriously injured.

‘Island’ stays afloat
Has Bruce Willis’ star finally fallen?

The first sign that Willis isn’t the box office draw he once was came when his film “Surrogates” came out last September; the studio wasn’t using his image on posters and billboards.

Now, his film “Cop Out” didn’t manage to beat out the weekend holdover, “Shutter Island.”

“Shutter Island” made another $22 million, while “Cop Out” came in No. 2 with a $18.5 million weekend.
