When Tony nominations were revealed last month, it was no surprise to learn that 2014 Best Actress winner Jessie Mueller was in the running for the big award once more — after all, she's now wowing Broadway audiences in "Waitress" just like she did in "Beautiful" before.

Still the nom was a bit of a shock to Mueller herself, since she was in bed when the news broke.

"I actually slept in that morning," she revealed during a Friday morning visit to TODAY. "I woke up to lots of texts from friends."

Hoda Kotb knew all about that — since she was one of those friends.

"I texted, 'Oh my, God!'" she cheered.

Hoda — like many others — is a big fan of Mueller's work in "Waitress," which sees the singing star playing the part of a beleaguered wife and pregnant waitress with a passion for pies.

But does Mueller know anything about working as waitress in real life?

"I cater-waitered," she recalled. "The kind of person who stands around faceless at parties and is like, 'Banana cream pie with a touch of coconut topping — would you like to try it?'"

However cater-waitering didn't prepare her for the waitress-themed pop quiz Hoda and Kathie Lee posed.

When asked what "burn one, take it through the garden and pin a rose on it" or "nervous pudding" really means in diner-speak, Mueller wasn't so sure.

As it turns out, those are orders for "a burger with lettuce and tomato" and "Jello," respectively, but the "Waitress" star certainly had a good point when she questioned whether or not the shorthand slang "really makes it easier."

Maybe more fun, but easier? Try figuring out what "Adam and Eve on a raft and wreck 'em" means and then tell us!
