The category is "game show hosts who don't hold back on roasting contestants."

I'll take Alex Trebek for $1,000, please.

The long-time "Jeopardy!" host made his feelings about "nerdcore hip-hop" abundantly clear after contestant Susan Cole described her love for it on Wednesday night's show.

Trebek had not heard about the genre before, so he asked Cole, a legislative librarian from Bowie, Maryland, to break it down for him.

"(The music feature) rapping about the things they love,'' she said. "Video games, science-fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun."

Trebek quickly contemplated his reply, took a breath, and then let it fly.

"Losers, in other words,'' he said.

He did try to soften the blow by adding, "I'm teasing." Cole could only smile after getting a rare taste of Mean Alex Trebek.

Nerdcore aficionados and Jeopardy fans alike were up in arms over the shade thrown by Trebek.

The irony of Trebek using "losers" to describe self-proclaimed nerds, who have been the lifeblood of Jeopardy! contestants since Trebek began in 1984, was not lost on some.

But Cole had the last laugh on Wednesday considering she dominated the competition by taking home $22,600 to win the episode. That means she will return for Thursday's show, where surely she and Trebek will have something to talk about.
