Sure, it may seem as if doing a flick about a couple calling it quits would be the last thing the Horrible Bosses star would have wanted to do, but Aniston insists it was just what she needed to help her get through such a difficult time...

"It was just a beautiful human story about a couple breaking up," Aniston tells James Lipton while taping an episode of Inside the Actors Studio before pointing out how her troubled relationship with Pitt made the experience of making the movie a positive one.

"I was slightly familiar on the topic and the issue. And I sort of honestly felt, like, what a great way to sort of exorcise some of that," says Aniston. "I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed it. You would think otherwise, because even the producers were like, 'I don't know if we should ask you to do this,' but I was like, 'Why not? Turn the page, let's move on.' "

Aniston's appearance on Inside the Actors Studio airs next Monday on Bravo.
