Jason London says he's in the poorhouse.

The Dazed and Confused star has filed a petition seeking to modify the $1,000 a month of child support he was ordered to give ex-wife Charlie Spradling when their divorce became final last March--eight years after the couple split up.

So what's his excuse?

According to the motion filed with Los Angeles Superior Court, London claims that he is broke after losing his job (aren't actors job-to-job anyway?) and has a tax liability of $700 per month which was not considered in the original settlement.

Therefore, the 38-year-old thesp is asking a judge to reduce the support payments he owes Spradling, who has sole custody of their 15-year-old daughter, Cooper.

"If I am paying the full $700/month, I cannot afford another $1,000 on top of that," he writes in his declaration. ( Read it here.)

London noted in court docs that he "will be" receiving unemployment benefits totaling $1,800 a month. Also, neither Jason nor Charlie is required to pay spousal support.

Perhaps he needs to save cash for his planned wedding to fiance Sofia Karstens?

In any case, judging by his IMDb page, London doesn't appear to be hurting for work.

Aside from Syfy's upcoming TV movie Weather Wars opposite Stacey Keach, the actor just finished work on the indie film Avarice, costarring Brad Dourif, and has several more projects in the pipeline-- dramas The Lamp and Snow Beast and the horror flick 51.

A hearing in the child support matter is set for July 26.
