On Thursday, the TODAY anchors were riding high on a wave of appreciation for their roles in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!"
"We think we were terrific," said Matt Lauer. But, he added, "We wanted a real critique."
Enter "Inside the Actors Studio" host James Lipton for his take. Lipton gathered with Kathie Lee Gifford and Lauer in the Orange Room and gave his awe-struck opinion.
"How did we do?" Lauer asked him.
"In a few words," said Lipton, "can you applaud a prayer?"
He had questions for the newly anointed thespians, though. "It's not easy for an actor to dig that deep," said Lipton. "Tell us how you did it."
"To be honest, it came from a place I had never mined before," Lauer deadpanned.
"Now that you've bared your souls to us in this film, what's next? Shakespeare? Euripides?" Lipton asked.
"I go for 'your rip,'" said Gifford, playing off the Greek playwright's name. "Because we don't give a rip around here, do we?"
"The film is enigmatically subtitled, 'Oh Hell No,'" Lipton continued, unruffled. "Can you give us a hint as to what that meant?"
"I think it's the opposite of 'Oh Hell Yes,'" quipped Savannah Guthrie, still in the main studio.
"There are countless young people out there who'd like to follow in your footsteps," said Lipton. "Do you have any advice for those budding thespians?"
Amid laughter, the anchors responded nearly in unison: "Oh hell no!"
