What won't James Franco do for art?

Well, just when you thought he was ready to play it safe, Tinseltown's quirkiest actor is getting into porn. But it's not what you think...

Franco is in talks to headline a Linda Lovelace biopic, playing the porn legend's former husband, pornographer Chuck Traynor, opposite Kate Hudson in the title role.

This Lovelace flick, based on Eric Danville's tome The Complete Linda Lovelace, is not to be confused with Inferno, the biopic Lindsay Lohan was attached to before she was sidelined by court-ordered rehab. The producers of the latter have since tapped Watchmen's Malin Ackerman to play the porn actress in their version.

Per Deadline.com, Howl directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman have been wooing Franco for their film, which delves into the tumultuous relationship between Traynor and Lovelace, who became a household name with 1972's Deep Throat. The skin flick was not only one of the highest-grossing movies of all time but also a cultural touchstone. But the duo themselves didn't last--Lovelace, real name Linda Boreman, claimed her husband coerced her into prostitution and pornography and even beat her.

Of course, Franco's involvement all depends on his increasingly hectic schedule.

Not only is he taking graduate classes at Yale (where he learned this morning he had just been nominated for his performance in Danny Boyle's 127 Hours), but the thespian is also set to join Nicole Kidman this fall on Broadway in Sweet Bird. He's also signed on to direct two movies set to go before the cameras within the next year, adaptations of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying.
