Angela Scoular, who played Ruby Bartlett, one of James Bond's conquests in a 1969 film, committed suicide by drinking corrosive cleaning fluid, WENN is reporting.

The actress, 65, suffered severe burns to her throat and body in April after drinking the fluid and pouring it over herself, then falling down stairs, the site reports. The fluid was 91 percent sulfuric acid.

Scoular played one of the Angels of Death in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," which starred George Lazenby in his only appearance as Ian Fleming's superspy. Her character was one of a group of women who had been brainwashed so that they would distribute bacteriological warfare chemicals throughout the world.

She also starred in a BBC production of "Wuthering Heights" and had roles in "Coronation Street" and other British productions.

WENN reports that Scoular suffered from alcoholism and depression and feared a return of the bowel cancer she faced in 2008. She was married to British actor Leslie Phillips, 87.
