Ja Rule won't be livin' it up after today.

Six months after pleading guilty to felony attempted criminal possession of a weapon, the rapper was sentenced to two years in prison in a New York City courtroom today and was subsequently hauled off in handcuffs.

"See y'all later," he told his supporters in the room, including wife Aisha, his mother and his mother-in-law. "Love you!" they called out to him.

"Love you, too," Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, replied.

The "Always on Time" artist was booked into custody at a city jail while he awaits word on his final lockup destination.

Ja Rule and Lil Wayne were busted on the same night back in July 2007 on gun charges after police found a semiautomatic handgun in Ja Rule's sports car.

The rapper also pleaded guilty in March to tax evasion for owing more than $3 million in New Jersey back taxes. He is also facing prison time in that case and could get an additional three years behind bars for his money troubles.

Sentencing was scheduled for this Monday, but his attorney says that will likely postponed until later this summer.

Even with prison on the horizon, Ja Rule has been busy putting the finishing touches on his first new album in years, Pain Is Love 2. It was originally due out yesterday, but producer 7 Aurelius told Mpire Online that they postponed its release to "benefit the quality of the music and overall handling of the album's promotion and marketing whilst Ja is incarcerated."
