Jennifer Lopez has gotten engaged — a year after she got married.

For her first wedding anniversary, the diva received an 8.5 carat engagement ring estimated to cost about $1 million from hubby Marc Anthony, according an upcoming issue of In Touch weekly. What’s more, notes the report, Anthony formally proposed to his wife.

“It sounds a little odd, but Marc and Jennifer were never really engaged — they just got married. So, to mark their first anniversary, Marc officially proposed, this time presenting Jennifer with an engagement ring from exclusive jeweler-to-the-stars Neil Lane,” reports In Touch, which quotes an insider as saying that the ring is “huge, and it sparkles beyond belief. Jennifer was very excited to get it!”

When contacted for comment about the peculiar story, Lopez’s spokeswoman told The Scoop that she “does not have any idea about this.”

Alien war on earth

Fighting aliens in his new flick “War of the Worlds” wasn’t too much of an acting stretch for Tom Cruise, some are chuckling, because that’s what he’s been doing for years as a Scientologist.

“Scientology teaches its devotees that much of the human condition can be attributed to an ‘incident’ that began in outer space and ended on planet Earth,” notes Rick Ross of Cultnews.Com. “[Scientology founder L. Ron] Hubbard revealed that 75 million years ago an alien galactic ruler resolved an overpopulation problem by sending his excess subjects to earth on spaceships.  . . . But these billions of alien souls, called ‘thetans,’ still remain on earth clustered in groups. And Tom Cruise, along with other Scientologists, believes that every Earthling is full of them.”

So why doesn’t Cruise share this belief with interviewers while he discusses his love of Katie Holmes? “This kind of religious truth isn’t provided for free — at least not by the church of Scientology,” Ross told The Scoop. “The price to learn this truth in 1997 was reportedly almost $20,000.”

Is Ashlee Simpson firing Joe Simpson, her manager dad? The star’s rep denies the story, but a “family insider” told Life & Style Weekly: “Joe has a full plate with all of Jessica’s work commitments. Ashlee told Joe that maybe he could just be her dad and someone else can guide her career.”  . . . Al-Jazeera, the Qatar-based network notorious for broadcasting war carnage, refused to air a PETA ad that contained footage of sheep being abused and slaughtered.  . . . Jane Fonda cancelled an appearance at the Human Rights Watch and never gave an excuse, the event organizer told the London Independent. Comedian Sandi Toksvig filled in and reportedly spent much of her time doing a “not entirely complimentary” impersonation of Fonda.
