Sure, Old Edition might be a better name at this point, but never mind the haters--'80s R&B supergroup New Edition announced today that they are reuniting in celebration of their 30th anniversary as a group.
Along for the ride are Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Bell, Biv, and, of course, DeVoe. Plus, uh, that other guy.
So what's the plan for their long-teased reunion?
Well, for starters, the group--which in addition to Brown and Gill includes Ralph Tresvant, Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell and Ronnie DeVoe--will mark the three decades since they first formed by taking the stage at the 2011 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans July 3.
"This is just the beginning," Bell said on behalf of the group. "We're preparing for a world tour and many other exciting things that we'll be announcing soon. The next chapter of New Edition is going to be an incredible celebration to thank our fans for all of their support over the last 30 years."
That support, incidentally, has been considerable.
The group's debut album, Candy Girl, was released in 1983. They went on to release 10 albums and sell 40 million records, ending in 1996 when all six members briefly wandered out of their respective Whitney Houston-overshadowed and solo career wildernesses to release the album Home Again. It debuted at No. 1.
So bar, consider yourself set. And, since their reputations precede them and all, emptied.
