Just two weeks after Showtime announced that the network’s hit serial killer series “Dexter” was renewed for two more seasons comes the news that those seasons will most likely be the last for the show.

During Showtime’s annual holiday bash, entertainment president David Nevins revealed that the end is already in the works.

“Coming back for two more years gives us clarity about how and when it will go out,” Nevins told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s things that are going to happen (this season) that will set up a very clear endgame that will take two seasons to tell. You have got to be there for the last two episodes.”

Until then, here’s a sneak peak for the next episode of "Dexter" — the one before the final two of the season.

Fans sad to see the end in sight can take heart. When pressed, Nevins admitted that he's "never going to say 'never'" about the possibility of more "Dexter."

“Dexter” airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on Showtime.
