‘Idol’ chickens out, and fans mostly agree

Many didn't see Covais as finalist; Manilow is great, Paula not so much
/ Source: msnbc.com

He's no longer the youngest contestant in the "American Idol" field. Because he's no longer in the field.

Sixteen-year-old (and looking younger than that) Kevin Covais was booted from the pack on Wednesday. When a judge compares you to Chicken Little, you probably aren't going to be around for long.

Here are some of your reactions and observations about what went, and predictions about what will go, down.

PROBABLY FAIRI love the show and it would be very hard to vote at this point who is the worst. However, I think the 3 singers in the group with the lowest points were accurate for this week. I believe Kevin is a better performer that the other male singer that was almost voted off. He is more mature mentally than his looks, which hurt him the most. Paula needs to be focused on her professional opinion of the singer and not so much what others think. She almost appears to try very hard to do everything the opposite of Simon. Her antics are very unprofessional, who is going to hire her after "Idol?" Simon is very abrasive, to the point, but a very good judge on who is going to make it (make money for promoters) in this business. Simon is the reality factor for the show.     —Ty

BARRY GOODFirst, I was thrilled to see Barry Manilow working with the finalists. He is not only the epitome of show business, he really knows his way around a song and his advice worked well for those who actually took it. I was surprised Kevin Covais lasted as long as he did. It seems every season there's an oddball finalist that just won't go away (anyone remember William Hung?). This time around we had two oddballs, and Taylor Hicks is much more entertaining.     —Patsy

BUCKY’S NEXTI thought the majority of them did really well this week. Kevin did deserve to go though. Bucky is the next to go. I don't think Ace is that good of a singer. If you take the good looks away, he wouldn't have lasted this long. And as Simon said, "this is a singing competition.” Sorry Paula, but even though you are really backing Ace, I really think it is because of his good looks. My favorites are Mandisa, Taylor, and Katherine. Chris is good but I am not much of a rock fan. If I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be Taylor Hicks. He is genuine and unique.     — Laura

VOTE KELLIEThere is really good singers this year. Katherine looks like the winner here. I love them all. Who I would like to win is Kellie, because she really is a very simple girl with a wonderful voice for country. America, give her your votes she deserves it. Yes, Kevin deserved to go, although he is so cute. He had no chance among them especially Paris.     —Cheryl

SORRY KEVINI think that Kevin was the perfect person to be voted off this week. He has a voice and can sing but not as well as many of the others. Also, it is hard to picture him (out of the remaining contestants) as a headlining singer or recording artist.     —Tom

SIMON SEZI think Simon is good at picking what’s right and what’s wrong. As nasty as he is, he truly calls a spade a spade. I do think that Chicken Little was getting tired. He did not raise the bar. He played the safe cutesy role. Although he was better on this episode than Bucky, unfortunately it wasn’t enough.     —Gregg

GRANDMA KNOWSOkay, so like I'm a grandma, but, I am into music. Granted, Kevin is young, but look at the potential this chicken little has! And he had manners, even toward Simple Simon. Here's hoping Kevin finds a career in singing after he graduates. Lisa should go next. Win? Let's go for Taylor Hicks. Love his style, singing and dance!     —LaDonna
