‘Housewives’ struggle to recover from fire

The nightclub fire on "Desperate Housewives" may have been put out, but its flames continue to touch lives on Wisteria Lane.

Doctor, my eyes: Many Wisteria Lane residents were injured in the fire, but not all of the injuries were horrible. After examining Carlos, doctors determined that they may be able to operate to restore his sight. This sent Gaby into a tizzy — instead of being thrilled that her husband would be able to see his daughters' faces, she fretted that he wouldn't find her as beautiful now that she's gained weight and become more relaxed about her appearance. She tried to get him to put off the surgery and began dieting and exercising like mad. But in the end, Carlos confessed touchingly that it wasn't her looks that attracted him, and she believed him.

Noisy nights: Orson suffered an injury to his septum that made him snore like a freight train. There was surgery that could help him, too, but first he tried drugging Bree so she'd sleep through his nocturnal noisemaking. When she accidentally drank the drugged tea just before an appearance promoting her book and ended up making a fool of herself, she all but ordered him to have the operation. And while she doesn't yet know it, the young doctor who is treating Orson just moved in with her son, Andrew.

Friends don't date friends' ex-husbands: Katherine and Mike continued to try and keep their relationship from Susan, knowing she's not yet over Mike and wouldn't look kindly on a friend dating him. Some carefully placed macadamia-nut cookies spilled the beans, and Susan went to yell at Bree for keeping the secret. Yet it was Bree who convinced Susan that she either had to get back together with Mike herself or let him go free, and in the end, Susan gave Mike and Katherine her blessing. HA!

Burned! Lynette paid off Anne Schilling to leave town and not tell Porter — in the process learning that Anne was lying about her supposed pregnancy. Lynette played the hypocrite once again, telling Porter how important it was that they be honest with each other, then refusing to tell him she knew about Anne leaving. But it's only going to get hotter for the Scavos. The cops know Porter threatened to kill Anne's husband, club owner Warren, and the real guilty party, Dave Williams, is already lying to the cops to throw the blame on to young Porter.

Creepy quote of the week:
