Bret McKenzie is ready to rock Peter Jackson's party.
The Flight of the Conchords star and big-time Tolkien fan has joined the expansive cast of The Hobbit as Lindir, an Elf of Rivendell.
But while this could be viewed as a big-shot New Zealander doing a fellow countryman a solid, this isn't McKenzie's first foray into Middle-earth.
The Wellington native, who became a big shot in his own right after Flight of the Conchords scored 10 Emmy nominations during its two-season run on HBO, actually appeared as an elf extra in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the trilogy capper The Return of the King.
Internet fans even gave his face-in-the-crowd character the name of "Figwit." But now he'll have an official Tolkien-crafted name to go with his elven ears!
While McKenzie and fellow Conchord Jemaine Clement played bohemian musicians on the season-premiere of The Simpsons last year, McKenzie has remained more under the radar on these shores than his partner in musical shenanigans.
Since they voluntarily pulled the plug on Flight of the Conchords, Clement has starred in the indie film Gentlemen Broncos, lent his voice to Despicable Me and Rio, and stole the show from Steve Carell and Paul Rudd in Dinner for Schmucks.
Cameras started rolling on The Hobbit last month. Martin Freeman plays Bilbo Baggins, while Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom are all reprising their LOTR roles.
