Kathie Lee says she has discovered why she keeps gaining weight even though she doesn’t eat much and works out every day: “I don’t get enough sleep,” she said. She is now seeking remedies from TODAY viewers and TODAY.com readers, asking for anyone's ideas on how she can get more than four hours of sleep per night.
KLG said that she suffers from empty nest syndrome, and that even though her children have moved out, she still hears every little sound.
There are a few things KLG isn’t considering: She said she doesn’t want to take Ambien, because she has a friend who is taking it and she’s becoming a "loony tune.” She also said melatonin doesn’t work for her, and going to sleep earlier doesn’t work either. She said she’s in bed by 9 p.m. every night, and if she goes to bed earlier than that, like 8 p.m., she’s back up again by midnight.
Earlier in the show, KLG mentioned that there are sounds that calm her. She likes waves, seagulls, and the sound of sailboats as the tide changes. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get those sounds at her home in the city.
“You know what I can fall asleep to in a second? Law & Order reruns... I feel comforted when Law and Order is on,” Hoda said.
Whereupon the studio cranked up the Law & Order theme music. “See?” Hoda said. “That feels good.”
Kathie Lee became concerned her co-host was about to take a nap. “We’re going to lose Hoda any moment,” she said.
TODAY.com contributor Jillian Eugenios swears by the dried lavender inserts in her pillows to help her sleep. It's like sleeping in a forest.
