Heigl learns lesson from Jennifer Love Hewitt

Katherine Heigl didn't  go into workout mode in order to fit into her wedding dress. Instead, she made a push to get in shape after witnessing Jennifer Love Hewitt’s recent “fat” fracas.

Unlike many brides, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl did not go into workout mode in order to fit into her wedding dress. Instead, she made a final push to get in shape after witnessing Jennifer Love Hewitt’s recent “fat” fracas.

“Oh, my god, if they think she looks bad then I'm screwed,” Heigl told OK! magazine. In fact, Heigl credits Hewitt with having a healthy attitude toward the public response to what many considered unflattering photos: “I should really take a note from her and not care so much — she looks amazing. She has a phenomenal body!”

Heigl and her musician beau, Josh Kelley, married Dec. 23 at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah. While many of her “Grey’s” co-stars were not able to make the wedding, Justin Chambers, T.R. Knight and Kate Walsh were at the wedding. Post-nuptials, the newlyweds headed to the Esperanza Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, for their honeymoon.

Paul McCartney’s heart procedure
British press reports that Paul McCartney had an angioplasty at a private hospital in the London area last fall. His recovery must have gone well; McCartney appeared on a BBC2 New Year Special and sang his hit “Dance Tonight” with Kylie Minogue.

His spokesman weighed in saying, “It was a routine medical operation.” McCartney will need all the strength he can muster in the coming weeks. He and his estranged wife, Heather Mills, are set to hammer out a final (and costly) divorce agreement during a five-day hearing in February.

‘West Wing’ lives on, at least in campaigns
In early December, the Associated Press asked the presidential candidates to name their favorite 20th century president from the opposing party. Many of the answers — Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Truman — were predictable. One “president” no one expected to hear was former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson’s vote, “Martin Sheen.” Presumably Thompson was referring to Josiah Bartlett from “The West Wing.”

It was my personal hope that Thompson’s (hopefully) ironic reference to “The West Wing” would be this election’s last. I was wrong. Democratic hopeful Joe Biden has called in the B-list clout of Richard Schiff, aka Toby Ziegler, the Bartlett administration’s curmudgeonly communications director. Schiff and Biden spent several days traveling across Iowa, where Schiff espoused support for Biden, presumably to Iowans who are still watching “The West Wing” in DVR format. Radar reports that Martin Sheen was set to stump for Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, but Sheen had to cancel because of a “severe, contagious cold.”

Just asking: Can we blame this on Oprah?

Fan Frenzy for Robin Williams
A bitter chill in the Manhattan air didn’t stop fans of “The Late Show” and Robin Williams, Letterman’s first post-strike guest, from lining up outside the Ed Sullivan theater Jan. 2.

“It was lovely,” Williams told the throng after he taped the broadcast. After Williams signed a spate of autographs and even chatted in French to a group of tourists who’d travelled from France, Williams told reporters that his appearance wouldn’t have happened if Letterman hadn’t struck and agreement with the Writer’s Guild of America before going on air. “I did not cross picket lines and I would not cross picket lines,” says Williams.

Shortly after the taping of Williams’ show, Donald Trump pre-taped his appearance on Letterman, set to air Jan. 4.
