Happy birthday, Snoopy! See how Wrangler, Savannah and others celebrated

Happy birthday, Snoopy! You're one of TODAY's favorite dogs of all time — making the cut just below Wrangler, of course.

So it's no surprise we set aside some time to celebrate you here at TODAY. Our furry Studio 1A resident marked the occasion by posing (but not playing) with a life-size toy version of Snoopy, and a ginormous version as well. Though guide dogs aren't allowed to play with stuffed toys, we think he had a good time hanging with his fellow pup.

And we weren't the only ones paying tribute. The "Peanuts Movie" producers released a YouTube video with step-by-step instructions on how to draw Snoopy, courtesy of director Steve Martino.

Meghan Trainor even got on the #HappyBirthdaySnoopy train, singing for the pup in a video posted on her Twitter account.

Savannah Guthrie did her well-wishing in person this morning on TODAY — and got a kiss in return.

But as Comic Book Resources reminds us, the character’s first appearance was actually on October 4, 1950 — not August 10.

The reason we're celebrating now and not in the fall lies in a 1968 "Peanuts" storyline by Charles M. Schulz "in which Snoopy is awakened by Linus in the middle of the night for a 'secret mission' that turns out to be a surprise party."
