Nostalgia alert: Thursday marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the ABC sitcom "Growing Pains," whose seven seasons repeatedly encouraged fans to "Show me that smile again."
A lot has happened since 1985, so TODAY.com is taking a then-and-now look at the actors who played the members of the Seaver family in Season 1, as well as another notable who joined the cast later in its run.
1. Alan Thicke
Then: A native of Ottawa, Canada, Thicke played all-American dad Dr. Jason Seaver.
Now: Thicke still pops up in TV and movies, making a cameo on Fox's "American Dad"; appearing in multiple episodes of Disney's "I'm in the Band" and the CW's "The L.A. Complex"; and starring in his own reality series, Pop's "Unusually Thicke." He's also proud papa to Robin Thicke, who's become a showbiz star in his own right.
2. Joanna Kerns
Then: Kerns played supportive and patient mom Maggie Malone Seaver.
Now: Although Kerns has continued to act onscreen, she also has become an accomplished television director, working behind the camera on a range of hit shows ranging from "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy" to "Pretty Little Liars" and "Switched at Birth."
3. Kirk Cameron
Then: The teen idol played oldest sibling Mike Seaver, and paved the way for his sister Candace to star in another ABC sitcom, "Full House," two years later.
Now: Cameron's devout Christianity and movie projects often go hand in hand, as was the case with 2013's "Unstoppable" and 2014's "Saving Christmas."
4. Tracey Gold
Then: Gold played teenager Carol Seaver, who once shared sparks with a character played by some dude named Brad Pitt.
Now: Acting in no fewer than two dozen TV movies since "Growing Pains" wrapped in 1992, Gold also appeared in the ABC Family sitcom "Melissa & Joey" in 2013 and Investigation Discovery's "Heartbreakers" in 2014.
5. Jeremy Miller
Then: Miller played the adorable Ben Seaver, who had a penchant for clashing with older brother Mike and screaming.
Now: Miller has been cooking up a new career as a celebrity chef for private parties.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio (Luke Brower)
Then: At age 16, DiCaprio joined the "Growing Pains" cast in 1991 to play Luke Brower, who lives with the Seavers when they learn the character is homeless. What ever happened to that DiCaprio guy?
Now: Oh, right: He became a four-time Academy Award nominee, solidifying his legacy as one of the best actors of his generation. But mostly because of the whole Luke Brower thing.
