A Good Wife, a good war and a good lawman were among the best and the brightest to grace the small screen last year.
That according to the folks behind the 70th Annual Peabody Awards who announced today that CBS' legal drama The Good Wife, about a political spouse dealing with the aftermath of her husband's scandal, HBO's epic World War II miniseries The Pacific, TNT's Men of a Certain Age, and TeenNick's DeGrassi lead the list of 39 programs singled out to receive television's most prestigious honor.
In other words, it was a pretty good year for tube fans.

DeGrassi scored for the youth series' two-parter dealing with a transgender teenager while Men snagged a prize for its insightful portrayal of a subject rarely addressed in TV: three middle age male friends dealing with life in their late 40s.
Also receiving Peabodys were Sherlock: A Study in Pink, Masterpiece Theater and Mystery!'s critically acclaimed update of the world's most famous detective; HBO's Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes as the autistic acclaimed animal welfare activist; FX's Justified, a modern-day Western about a federal lawman who metes out his own brand of justice; and Martin Scorsese's American Masters documentary Elia Kazan: A Letter to Elia, the director's homage to another legendary, but controversial Hollywood filmmaker.
Also on the doc side, Peabodys went to LennonNYC for its poignant look at the life of the late Beatle and Spike Lee's Katrina follow-up, If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise.
