Live from New York, it's one big controversy.
The Gay &Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation isn't laughing at a Saturday Night Live from this past weekend poking fun at those ubiquitous pharmaceutical commercials. That's because the fictional product, "Estro-Maxx," supposedly comes at the expense of transgender people.

In a call to action on its Website, GLAAD demands an apology from the show and NBC over the so-called "dangerous and blatantly anti-transgender segment."
"The piece was a mock commercial for estrogen replacement therapy and featured men with facial hair wearing dresses, meant to represent transgender women. This segment cannot be defended as "just a joke" because there was no "joke" to speak of," read the group's statement. "The attempted comedy of the skit hinges solely on degrading the lives and experiences of transgender women."
In the sketch, Bill Hader hawks "Once Daily Estro-Maxx," a single-daily estrogen pill "that gives you all the sex-changing hormones you need." The clip then features transsexual men explaining how the pill helps them in the process of becoming women.
But GLAAD labels the bit "destructive" and "duhumanizing" and says the sketch could fuel "a hurtful climate" that could put transgender people in danger.
GLAAD has circulated a petition (with 2,200-plus signatures so far) seeking an apology, the removal of the offending sketch from SNL's site as well as companion sites like Hulu and any future reruns of the episode.
A rep for Saturday Night Live was not immediately available for comment.
Maybe we should just blame Pat.
