About 100 mourners attended the traditional graveside funeral Friday in Allentown, Pa., of former "American Idol" contestant Alexis Cohen, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver last weekend in Seaside Heights, NJ.

"I was shocked, stunned and mortified when I found out," says ex-boyfriend James Kern, 27, who dated Cohen on-and-off for the past nine years.

Daniel Bark, 23, is being held on $150,000 bail and on suicide watch in the Ocean County Jail. He was charged with aggravated manslaughter, death by vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident stemming from his arrest last weekend.

"I can understand people having sympathy for the guy (who hit Alexis), but I hope he gets what he deserves," says Kern, a student who lives in Philadelphia. "If you get in a car drunk, you get what you deserve."

Cohen's mother, Mindy, who did not speak at the funeral, has hired an attorney to pursue an investigation into the accident.

"She wants to know how her daughter was killed, if the individual was drinking," says the lawyer, Jay Scherline, a personal injury attorney from Allentown who says at this point he is not pursuing a lawsuit.

"She wants to get answers," he continues. "She and my law firm trust the police and the prosecutor's office, but she wants someone to protect her legal rights."
